Originating in 16th century Japan, tabi or split toe socks were intended to be worn with sandals & wooden clogs called geta, reaching their peak during the Edo period (1600-1868). Shiatsu theory hypothesizes that the acupuncture meridians located between the toes are associated with digestive health and posture alignment; wearing tabi socks activates these meridans and thus benefit both the spine and digestive system.
